New Wave Technologies L.L.C. was created as a one stop shop for all of your product development and medical device design needs. The founder (Cam Habeger) has been in the medical device community for 20+ years. Starting at Medtronic, in the Promeon division, he contributed in the pacing battery industry. The various processes used in which he worked with were: micro TIG welding, laser YAG welding, helium leak testing, and iodine/lithium battery construction.
After 3 years at Medtronic he accepted a position at Scimed/Boston Scientific where he worked on balloon catheters, inflation devices, guide wires, and stents. Stent designs included, NiTiNOL self-expanding and NiTiNOL balloon expanding. In a process development role, he was critical in developing many of the processes that are used in the industry today which include catheter construction, braiding, reflow, tip forming, laser cutting, expanding, heat-treating, micro blasting, electropolishing, and final testing.
After 6 years at Scimed/Boston Scientific he was offered a position at Stereotaxis. This was an exciting company that used magnetics to steer guide wires, electrophysiology mapping catheters, and radio frequency ablation catheters. His Stereotaxis contributions included setting up facilities to include a class 10,000 clean room and designing equipment to fabricate the product. The equipment design included reflow equipment for catheters, wire twisters, soldering stations, and magnetizer stations. He was also vital in the product design, including ablation catheter construction, testing, and system integration. He is responsible for and named on the automated catheter advancement device patent. He was an active member of the engineering team at Stereotaxis for 18 months until former coworkers from Scimed/Boston Scientific called and offered a position at ev3.
At ev3, he and his team were responsible for the development of the embolic protection rapid exchange catheter and wire/recovery basket. He was directly responsible for most of the manufacturing process equipment which streamlined the production floor and substantially lowered costs. While on the embolic protection team, he brought in Hydrophilic coating from an outside supplier. He designed the ultraviolet curing coating machine that applied the material to the catheter and was integral in setting up the storage and use of the coating from the warehouse to the manufacturing floor. After working in the embolic protection franchise, he was asked to assist in moving the acquired company ITI’s stent franchise to ev3’s Plymouth facility. He was directly responsible for the move and subsequent qualifications to ramp back into production.
After production was up and running a huge push was undergone to increase numbers. He was asked to replicate lines and get them qualified for production. He successfully managed this feat eight times until production could keep up with sales. After production was increased, a substantial effort was put into leaning out the lines. Yes, the founder is also knowledgeable in all facets of Lean manufacturing. After many Kaizen events, equipment and personnel were streamlined and eight production lines soon turned into three. Looking back on his service at ev3 many pieces of equipment and processes were a direct result of his efforts.
If you’re looking for a highly skilled and efficient team to streamline and incorporate cost effective methods for manufacturing or looking for Medical Device design, New Wave Technologies is the company for you!
